Session Four
Session Four opened at the Shrine of Returning Light after HEP returned the sisters from his forge.
Elara and Briar had the Masks of the Lion Road, the Rafter Net meant for Tessel, and the troubling recording from Susul's ferry-dock concert.
They chose to move through Bellharrow rather than rush straight back into old machinery.
Tea, Questions, And Tessel
At the Moth-Hearth Inn, the sisters asked about the ferry-dock concert.
Loom described one of the strangest things that happens at his docks: sometimes a passenger arrives on the Bellharrow side while still standing on his ferry. When that happens, he makes both versions declare truths until one vanishes. He calls it a double crossing.
Mira said Tessel had delivered the Susul recording. She also explained that Tessel sleeps in a small safe attic-like space between houses, and that the town looks after her.
Sister Wax noticed the disturbed hinges beneath the Shrine. She was not angry that the sisters had gone below. She said the Shrine terminal takes two months to reset after a wrong password, and that F14 probably knew the password.
The sisters found Tessel, apologized for frightening her at the schoolhouse, and gave her the Rafter Net. She loved it immediately and ran off to catch butterflies.
Morrow Thistle
A Red Satchel delivery brought F14's gifts through Morrow Thistle: Briar's Blasting Boot and Elara's Moonstep Pin.
Morrow turned out to be a crow witch, trinket dealer, watcher, and information broker. Her shop was full of bottles, strange objects, and quiet crows.
Morrow said F14 had left the boot and pin in her care, with instructions to give them to the sisters only if they truly needed them.
When asked about F14, Morrow said F14 was safe "for a time" and nearby "in a way," but she would not say more.
Morrow also watched the ferry-dock concert through her crows. She remembered it being different and said she saw only one Fractal Friend monkey there, blue.
Bramble Noon
Bramble Noon arrived with bright plant-witch chaos and gave each sister a seed.
She told them to plant the seeds at a cottage and give them secrets, spooky stories, love, and care.
The sisters also delivered glowleaf from Bramble to Mira. Mira said glowleaf came from the Fractal Friends' planet, and that the leaf was for her Fractal Friend monkey.
The Substitute Teacher
Morrow offered the sisters a deal: clear out her nemesis, the Substitute Teacher under the Crooked Schoolhouse, and she would heavily discount two powerful trinkets.
Mira knew of the Substitute Teacher but did not want to discuss it in front of Tessel. She lent the sisters a metal ruler and said maybe the schoolyard could be reclaimed if the teacher were gone.
At the schoolhouse, the masks let the sisters read the first major Session Four inscription:
Do not call Tessel key. Ask what door she wants opened to close.
In the Lesson Cellar, the blackboard gave them a route order:
School, well, shrine, home.
Briar provoked the Substitute Teacher with a cartwheel. The construct-like teacher attacked with animated chalk, a chalk storm, bell magic, and forceful slams.
The sisters destroyed it. Afterward, more script warned:
If a road, door, or voice asks one sister alone, refuse the road, door, or voice.
School, Well, Shrine, Home
Following the blackboard's order, the sisters checked the Bell Well.
The well was full of water again. The door at the bottom was still there, but closed and hard to reach. The sisters tested it with magic and decided not to force it.
At the Shrine, the masks revealed more instructions:
When the masks chill, put both sisters' hands on the same mark.
Do not force the hinge. Read the frame.
They also learned that the telescope below the Shrine is labeled:
Hollow Sun Observatory
Near the black glass eye, they found:
Entryway 24
Then they returned to F14's cottage.
Home
At the cottage, Elara and Briar planted Bramble's seeds in the old garden plots. They whispered secrets, watered the seeds, and found a small carved approval:
good job
Briar found a loose floorboard and recovered two hidden trinkets: the Lion-Sun Nail and the Choir of Bone Reeds.
After returning to Morrow, the sisters chose two discounted third-level trinkets: the Washday Basin Shard and the Orchard-Sun Grenade. They paid 20 gp and still owe Morrow 20 gp.
Morrow then shared the sharpest new lead: her crows had eyes on two Susul-like figures. One was at the Glass Briar. One was at Susul's mountain home.
The sisters ended the session headed toward the Glass Briar.
